The 4 Jaw chuck centraliser works by being trapped between the lathe tailstock centre and a centre punched mark on the work piece held in a 4 jaw chuck or on a faceplate. A dial indicator placed against the centraliser measures the eccentric error as the chuck/plate is rotated, thus allowing correcting adjustment to be made.
